A question on integrating SMART data into Office 365 Applications like Sharepoint

I was recently asked about how to show SMART data in Sharepoint.

There is no simple solution.

Currently at WCS we have a web application that pulls queries from SMART into MS SQL Server. From there we feed data into .net web applications. You could use a similar approach and the publish from MS SQL server into Sharepoint. This would require a significant investment in engineering time - primarily to create users the SMART API and pushes data into MS SQL. Getting data from MS SQL server into Sharepoint is well documented elsewhere.

I would advise against going directly from the SMART Database to Sharepoint, as using the API ensures your solution will work even when the SMART schema evolves.

There have been discussions about creating MS SQL as a Gundi endpoint, which would solve the main challenge here. If there was significant demand here, the Gundi time would give this higher priority.

Hi,
I would be very interested in an integration from SMART to SP.

We use SMART for intensive carnivore monitoring and data collection, which is managed in our 6 databases by several data assistants across 3 sites.
Our field teams are daily out in the field to collect data. However, our field teams also need to be able to go back to their sightings and add information later on when they are back in the office and can start ID-ing their photos.

At the moment, the data assistants are trained to export the data out of SMART and upload to our data tracker on SharePoint. Everyone in the team has access to the data tracker and can view/edit their observations. This way of working takes quite some time from the data assistants, so I was wondering if it is possible to make an integration or write a code to automatically pull data from SMART and upload to SharePoint.

Looking forward hearing if someone can help me with this integration.
Kind regards,
Elke
