Export data model categories

Hi,

Is there a way to easily export part of a data model?
We have partners that would like to use our data model as well, which is great as it will standardize carnivore data collection across areas/ countries/organisations.

At the moment, the only way is to share our entire data model. Our data model is contructed of about 10 categories. Is there a way to easily share part of the datamodel?
At the moment, it takes me hours to delete every single attribute one by one, in the categories that I don’t want to share with the partner.

Would be very helpful to get your feedback!

Kind regards,
Elke

Hi Elke,

No, you can’t export partial data models.

What I usually do in this case is export the data model to .XML, then open the file in a text editor (try Notepad++) and modify the code. It looks daunting at first but should make sense after a while.

Perhaps have a go at this and if you need help, please feel free to share to my email with guidance on what exactly needs to be kept and I will try to create this for you.

Cheers,

Alex

Hi Alex,
Didn’t think of that. I managed! Thanks, that works well.

Kind regards,
Elke

Hi Alex,
One doubt, couldn’t it be possible to make a configurable model (submodel) and export only that submodel. I haven’t tried it, but it seems to make sense?

Hi,

You can create modified (smaller & different in appearance) versions of your data model using configured models, but these will not be compatible with full data models for merging purposes.

To explain the concept a little bit, a configured model is a modified version of the existing data model used primarily for exporting to Mobile. I.e. you can change the way the data model components appear, but you can’t create new data model components. This is only possible in the data model itself.

Cheers,

Alex
