Introducing Gundi, the universal adaptor for conservation technologies

Dear SMART Community,

We wanted to let you know about the launch of a new platform called Gundi this week.

You may have heard of Gundi before. Meaning “glue” in Swahili, Gundi is a free and open-source platform that acts as a universal adaptor between any hardware and any conservation software such as EarthRanger and SMART Connect.

The SMART Integration Task Force is working closely with the Gundi team to ensure that SMART users have access to the integrations and the data that they need. We wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some of the current integrations available as managed releases to SMART users through our collaboration with Gundi:

  1. Global Forest Watch: Receive and view alerts about deforestation (GLAD) and fire (VIIRS) events from Global Forest Watch in SMART Connect as independent incidents.

  1. Skylight: Receive and view AIS-based alerts about illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activity from Skylight in SMART Connect as independent incidents. This includes event types such as rendezvous, entry, proximity, speed range, and fishing.

We anticipate more integrations to come! For more information on the Gundi platform and to sign up for early access to the managed release of these SMART integrations, visit the Gundi website at https://projectgundi.org.
