Connect Query Output

Hi There SMART Community

We would like to share some of our independent incident & survey observation queries with someone via connect. The output is very difficult to read, it brings up every possible data column, even those with no data, so you have to scroll to find the populated columns (in HTML format). Are we missing any important settings/filters here on the desktop side of things?

If this is just what the output is, does anyone have R code to share to change the txt. output to only include data fields populated with data? I.e. How are users converting it into an R-readable format?

Many Thanks
Mich

Hi There

Just pushing this post to the top once more, to see if anyone that missed it the first time might be able to help.

Thank you!
Mich

Hi Michelle,

An observation query will include all the data fields available in the output based on the filters selected when designing the query, i.e. if you query using a primary category, you’ll be provided all the possible attributes associated with this category.

This is typical behaviour as each incident may have different category and attribute data populated so in most cases all the columns need to be present. You may want, instead of running one broad query and attempting to remove irrelevant data, create multiple more specific queries, but I may not be fully understanding your requirement here.

I am wondering about the txt output as observation queries will normally display as tables when run from Connect (as HTML) or CSV when run from the software. That said, I’ve had some success using AI tools (e.g. Chat GPT) for processing things like this.

Cheers,

Alex

Hi Alex

When I select the category I want observation data for, it brings up columns for EVERY attribute in the data model, not just those associated with the category, this is what is tripping us up. We didn’t think to use AI to translate this data for us though, thank you, we will give it a bash!

All the best
Mich
