External GPS SMART Mobile Configuration

Hi Everyone

We are interested is using an external GPS device for location and tracking data on the mobile app, instead of the device’s built-in GPS. Apparently it is possible to configure the app to use an external GPS device, provided the GPS device has Bluetooth capabilities? Does anyone have experience using an external GPS, who can share their steps with us? Or are there resources out there we can consult?

Hi Michelle,

The AIs are quite good at this and you should get something like the following if you search for “Android Bluetooth GPS”. If you download one of the Bluetooth GPS apps it will also guide you through the process.

Your external GPS will need to support Bluetooth.

I tested this with SMART Mobile and it works well.

The original project we were working on was placed on hold, so this fell off the agenda. It has been picked up again this year, so we will be giving it a go and I will share what we learn with you. And again, if anyone has lessons learned, settings used, that they can share with us, we would be most greatful!
