Is it possible to create a folder containing json files in SMART mobile version 1.0.478?

I am a SMART user in Vietnam, I use SMART mobile version 1.0.385 and the latest SMART mobile version is 1.0.478. I noticed that version 1.0.385 when exporting Offline data will create a folder in the phone’s Internal Memory named SMARTdata but in version 1.0.478 I cannot find a similar folder. Why do I want to know where that folder is? Because in the place where I use SMART, there are some ranger stations that do not have internet, or the internet is very slow so they cannot export data online, so I need another synchronization method, so can you show me where that file is created or if not, can you update the new version to create a folder to save the exported data there? Thank you very much.

Normally you retrieve files from the device using SMART Desktop’s import data from device function. Is that not working for you?

I am a Smart coordinator at a conservation area, smart data at ranger stations will be transferred to a conservation area server for processing, analysis and reporting. So at some ranger stations there is no wifi or internet, when using version 1.0.385 I often use other synchronization. But now when updating to version 1.0.478, there is no SMARTdata file, so I cannot synchronize.

Hi Tan,

If I understand correctly you are trying to manually retrieve the json file from the device? In all recent versions of SMART Mobile once you select to “export data” when the device is configured for uploading directly to Connect, the data will be sent to the server and won’t be retrievable on the device.

If this is a regular occurrence you may want to configure the SMART Mobile packages to work offline instead.

Cheers,

Alex

I have installed offline data package export for Ranger Stations without internet or wifi when using SMART mobile version 1.0.385, after exporting the data package, version 1.0.385 will create a file named SMARTdata in the phone’s internal memory (2 to 3 times a month, members of the Station will bring their phones to a place with internet to synchronize). From there, I can use another data synchronization method to the Conservation Area’s server to process the data. But when updating to SMART mobile version 1.0.478. But version 1.0.478 when installing offline data package export, it does not create a SMARTdata file but temporarily saves it in the SMART mobile project package, so I cannot get the data in the SMARTdata file to synchronize to the server. So I want to ask if there is any way to find the SMARTdata file if version 1.0.478 creates it in the phone’s internal memory?

The underlying issue was a change at the system level by Google to prevent access to these kinds of folders.

You can export the JSON files individually by going through the SMART Settings on mobile:
Settings box (top right corner)
Select “Exported data”
Select one of the files and select Share (bottom right corner)
You can share it to a location which you can access from the desktop

It might be worth creating a “Share-all” option which ZIPs all the files up and lets you share them all at one time. Let me know what you think of that.

Dear Tan,
The current problem is that Google has prevented and does not allow third-party applications to access the SMARTData folder directly on Android devices.
Some of the following solutions may help you when you are using SMART Mobile offline packages:

  • Solution 1) Connect your phone to your PC using a cable in file transfer mode. Then go to the Phone’s Internal Memory and find the SMARTData folder on the phone at the following path: Android\data\org.cybertracker.mobile.smk\files\SMARTdata
→ Copy the JSONs files to your PC.

  • Solution 2) After exporting data on SMART Mobile, go to Settings → Exported Data → You will see all your Patrol Files → Share these Files via platforms such as Email, Zalo, Drive,…etc when there is an Internet connection. (Please find the Clip I attached at the following link:
