Mobile app not acquiring location, Desktop not completing Sync

I’ve come back from 3 weeks leave and found everything is broken!

The URL for our Connect server has been changed for some reason but despite discovering the new URL (delete :8443 from the address) I’ve been unable to restablish a full connection with Desktop. In Desktop, when I do a sync, it seems to successfully download and apply changes but then fails in the upload stage (it simply times out after 100 tries).

The Mobile App was also failing to upload a new patrol. So I tried connecting using the new URL and downloading the patrol package again (but the app just said that package was already connected). So I then tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling from the Playstore. This installed version 1.0.576. But this wont even acquire a GPS location and is just stuck on “Acquiring location, waiting for time correction” so I’m not even able to test if I can now upload a patrol (phone GPS is working fine on other apps, location permission set to “all the time”). The option to “skip GPS” seems to have been removed from the mobile app which is a shame for testing.

Can someone direct me to a previous version of Smart mobile (and how to install it on my phone) so I can at least test that we can still upload patrols to Connect.

What can I do to resolve the failing sync?!

Thank you

I managed to find an old APK of the mobile app and reinstalled that and the GPS location acquired just fine, so seems to be a bug with the recent update to the mobile app. I’m using Samsung S20 with Android 13.

Nothing changed in SMART Mobile here, just takes a while for the GPS to start aquiring the time properly. You can disable using the GPS for time in the package settings if you like…

Hi Justin, can you give me a link to an APK for a previous version of SMART Mobile because for whatever reason I can’t get 1.0.576 to work. The only previous APK I have is for 385 which is quite old. Unfortunately I don’t know what version it was I was using successfully before I updated to the latest.
Thanks
Jeremy
PS I’m currently unable to change the package settings because there is also something wrong with the sync between our Desktop database and Connect.

OK found the setting to turn of Use GPS Time - it’s in Desktop and is a Device Setting rather than a Package setting. This setting has been unchanged throughout my use of SMART so I don’t understand why I’m now unable to acquire GPS time. It is acquired when I’m using version 385 but not when I’m using verison 576.

And although the Mobile setting in Desktop says that Skip GPS is allowed this option is not appearing when the package is running. Perhaps that option only appears once the GPS time has been acquired!

Hi Jeremy,

The time correction is one-time to determine if the device time is in sync with the actual time. If your devices are connected to any kind of network, then this happens automatically, so you do not lose anything.

One problem we noticed is that if you are inside when setting things up, it can take a while for the GPS to send a good timestamp. It may be that going outside and waiting until you have a very clear signal is what is needed.

Yes, having the correct time is so important that it trumps Skip GPS.

In any case, glad you found the setting.

Cheers,
