Problem with Map Bounds in report

Hi all,

I’ve created an Incident Report including a SMART MAP, but I’m having an issue setting bounds.

  • If I set to Map Extents, I get a map when I run the report but, thanks to the available basemaps it covers most of Europe.
  • If I set to All Query Layers, I get a blank map.
  • If I set to the Data Set (the Incident position from Observation Query), I get a blank map.
  • If I set to Custom and manually select the Bounds, I get a map and the Incident position. The problem is that the Extents I have to set to cover the whole area where Incidents may be reported is too large to be of much use.

Is there a way to specify a scale from the Data Set? My theory is that the Bounds are too close when they are set to just one GPS point, thereby giving me a blank map when I run the report. Can I alter this anywhere to specify “(Data Set Point)+100 meters” as the Map Bounds, for example? Maybe as an expression within the Report settings or as a seperate Query for the SMART MAP?

Thanks in advance for ideas and tips!

Good afternoon

Not sure if you have managed a workaround, because i think your suggestion is quite good.

But what is the extent of your incident area? Is it all of Europe or is it a specified smaller area?

My suggestion would be (in GIS software like QGIS) i would add the layers and then create a new Shapefile Polygon layer. I would draw a Square over the majority area and export and save it as Extent (maybe you cna do this multiple times and use these as seperate basemaps wihtin SMART).

That way when you add these extent areas into SMART you can Zoom to that extent (symbolise the square as no fill and white lines) then use those in your report template and it will zoom to the extent of that specified layer with your basemaps…

Let me know if that helps you
