SMART Mobile Feature Update!

Hi SERCA community,

Based on recent forum discussions, we’re happy to share a brief update on two SMART Mobile feature changes that have been made to the new version of SMART Mobile build 600.

1. Alerts will now send immediately, even when upload mode is set to manual

SMART Mobile now sends alerts immediately when a connection is available, even if the device is configured for manual upload. Manual upload is primarily used when teams want to review, edit, or delete observations in the field before sending their data to the server. If a user has no connectivity in the field, alerts will remain on the device and will be sent automatically as soon as a connection is established.

Expected user impact: Low. We do not expect this to change normal workflows significantly, but it should improve the timeliness of alert delivery.

2. Three state checkboxes: Checkbox fields will support an intermediate state

We have also updating how BOOLEAN fields behave in SMART Mobile, particularly checkbox fields such as “Is armed”.

Currently, if a user does not interact with a checkbox, the value may be treated as No. This makes it difficult to distinguish between a user intentionally selecting No and a user not answering the question.

To address this, checkboxes will support a third state: indeterminate.

This means:

  • If the field is marked as required, the user must actively choose either Yes or No.
  • If the field is not required, SMART Mobile can distinguish between No and Not specified.

Expected user impact: Moderate. Users may notice checkbox fields behaving slightly differently, especially when they are required. The change should be easy to understand and will help improve data quality.

You can update to SMART Mobile build 600 through the Google Playstore or Apple Store. You can also visit the Cybertracker website and download the application file.

Thanks to everyone who raised these issues and helped clarify the expected behaviour.
