Hello SMART community,
We are experiencing app freeze/lagging when collecting community survey data using SMART 7.5.9 survey plugin. The survey is relatively long (80+ observation across 16 categories) and some of the questions result in text-heavy attributes.
We purchased two identical, brand new devices for the survey and set them up in the same way:
Device model: ULE-RGPN-X16-BLK (Ulefone)
Android version: Android 15
RAM: 6 GB
Internal storage: 128 GB
Processor: MediaTek Helio G91
Both devices only have pre-installed apps plus SMART and Adobe Scan.
The surveys are conducted offline in the field, the archive data setting is enabled. On day one both devices showed noticeable lag when typing into text fields. They would also occasionally freeze for a few seconds, but it was still possible to complete surveys.
On day two, one of the two devices began freezing often and for long periods, while the other device performed fine. The freezing and lagging seemed to get worse as the survey progressed and the later sections were filled in.
When the device froze, users tried ending the survey, restarting and continuing from the section where it froze, but this did not resolve the issue, and SMART repeatedly became unresponsive.
Any advice/insight into what could be going wrong would be welcome. This is our pilot study and we would like to use SMART as the data collection tool in the future.
