Hi all - I am the Associate Curator of International Conservation at the North Carolina Zoo. In my role, I support the Zoo’s mission to protect wildlife and wild places primarily through support of its conservation projects implementing SMART conservation software across Africa. Before joining the Zoo, I was the SMART Partnership Program Manager at Wildlife Conservation Society in New York and an Adjunct Research Scientist in the Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology Department at Columbia University. Prior to WCS, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Bioko Biodiversity Protection Program at Drexel University. With an emphasis on primates, central Africa, and technology, my work has primarily focused on the drivers and dynamics of bushmeat hunting, quantifying the impact of human activities on wildlife populations, and leveraging research and technology to more effectively conserve biodiversity. I have a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Drexel University, and is a member of the IUCN/SSC Primate Specialist Group, Africa Section and Red Colobus Working Group.

Hi

My name is Jonathan Palmer and I am the SMART CTO and WCS’ Executive Director of Conservation Technology.

I’ve been working in technology for over 30 years and started working in conservation over 20 years ago. I owe a huge amount to Tanzania where I started my career in conservation, creating and deploying digital strategies for Mweka Wildlife College, TANAPA, and a number of other organizations under the Ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources. I’ve been privileged to being working for WCS for over 15 years where I lead a team of 10 avid conservation technologists focusing on getting solutions into the hands of our field staff and our partners. I’m part of the founding story of a number of collaborations including SMART, ConSoSci, WildlifeInsights, and WildLabs. As Chair of NetHope, I oversaw the board of the world’s leading non-profit technology collaboration. In addition to my passion for Conservation Technology, together with my wife, I enjoy watching my daughter succeed in running and soccer.

Hi folks,
My name is Justin Steventon and I co-founded CyberTracker with Louis Liebenberg back in 1997 and created the CyberTracker software application. I am interested in building a general tool, which could collect data for SMART, EarthRanger, ConSoSci, KoBo and many others all using the same system!
I have built SMART Mobile and hope to be supporting it and creating new features for many years to come. I look forward to interacting with you all and making this an important, long-lived and useful part of the SMART Conservation Tools.
In addition to my passion for conservation, I enjoy shooting pool and tea. I also love field trips, so perhaps we will have the opportunity to meet in the field at some point.

Hello to all!!

I hope are you well

My name is Gabriel. I am a Biologist with a master’s degree in protected natural areas, I am currently working in the Islas de la Bahía Honduras National Marine Park (PNMIB) in the NGO Roatan Marine Park (RMP) where I am the coordinator of the Control and Surveillance Program, we have marine patrols and park rangers trained in the use of SMART Mobile.

Likewise, since November 2020 RMP began to implement the use of the SMART tool in all its phases (SMART Mobile, SMART Connect and SMART Desktop) throughout the year 2021 and so far in 2022 we continue to learn a lot about the SMART tool Until now, we have contextualized the SMART tool to the needs of the marine protected area and we have also oriented it with a biological approach in capturing morphometric data of marine fauna.

Thanks to everyone in the community for continuing to share your knowledge and help solve complex problems.
