Welcome to the SMART Community Forum! Please introduce yourself

Hello all,
My name is Bien. I’m working as a scientific-technical officer in Bu Gia Map National Park, southeastern Vietnam.
We have been applying SMART Desktop since 2016. SMART Mobile has just been used to conduct forest patrol and biodiversity monitoring activities in Bu Gia Map NP since 2021.
We would like to get more support from the SMART Community to improve better SMART usage in the park.

Many thanks to all!

Hello to everyone!
My name is Josip Kusak. I work at the Biology Department of the Veterinary faculty, Zagreb Croatia. Beside teaching students basic zoology, ecology etc., I study large carnivores, primary wolves in Croatia and wider.
I am a new user of SMART 6.3 and plan to introduce it as a system which will be used by a network of field observers to collect signs of presence of wolves, lynxes and bears in Croatia as part of national monitoring program of those species.
The topic of the use of line and polygon features in future versions of SMART was raised by one of my students in the old forum, and I am looking forward to ver. 8 of SMART. In the meantime we chose to use ver 6.3
Kind regards,
Josip

Hi everyone!
My name is Lisa and I am based in the Eastern Cape of South Africa where we are in the early stages of establishing a large connected conservation landscape by integrating land, dropping fences, and establishing wildlife corridors. This long term project is the vision of a collaboration between the Conservation Landscapes Institute (CLI), the African Rhino Conservation Collaboration (ARCC), the Indalo Protected Environment and Wilderness Foundation Africa and I work with the fantastic support of the Wildlife Protection Solutions team. I’ve been tasked (by CLI) with building the monitoring programme across the landscape to provide ongoing data collection for ecological, community, land management, wildlife security, animal health, impact assessment and a variety of other purposes. I’m currently working with the various managers and stakeholders across this landscape to design standardized data collection models as well as meet the individual data collection needs of the wildlife reserves and other land users.
I originally trained as a veterinarian before making a jump into ecology, where I found a real passion for conservation technology. Before my current role I was working in the reserve management and ecology team on a private game reserve in this area with the focus of getting the reserve set up on first CyberTracker and later (with the assistance of WPS) SMART and EarthRanger. I am now in the process of assisting the implementation of these programmes and their associate/integrated technologies across the other reserves in this area. I’m also working with some of the universities in this area to introduce students to the SMART programme and get them using it in the field in collaboration with these game reserves and research partners.

It continues to be a steep learning curve for me so I’m excited to continue to interact with and learn from this community.
